When you begin, you don't have to know how to handle a 3-yr-old's tantrum or a rebellious teenager, unless you start parenting at that stage in their life. When you start with a baby, you learn to hold them safely and love them. In return, they learn to trust you and love you unconditionally. You grow together and weather each new development, until the day comes when your child becomes a parent him/herself. Then, you start the whole process over again...as a grandparent. Consider all that you have learned to do. Through experience, you will learn to parent a child and you will be wonderful. I would order the book from Amazon on same-day shipping, pull an all-nighter to read it, and then know which passages were best to read the next day to the kids.
